UIS Organic laboratory uses GC-MS/MS for the analysis of PCBs. GC-MS/MS filters out unwanted noise normally created from the sample matrix. GC-MS/MS generates more qualifiers ions than conventional systems with a higher level of confidence. This results in cleaner spectrums. Using MSMS results in more accurate identification and quantification of analyses.
Geosmin and 2-MIB remain poorly understood throughout much of the water industry, and misconceptions which impede the prediction, treatment, and control of these volatile organic compounds (VOCs) persist. UIS Organic laboratory performs this analysis on a Bruker/Varian 450GC 300MS triple quadruple using solid phase microextraction (SPME)
UIS Organic Laboratory offers an in-house developed C10-C40 TPH test. Using certified diesel and motor oil standards, this method enables us to determine the total hydrocarbon concentration over the diesel/oil range. This method enables us to determine the total hydrocarbon concentration (TPH C10-C40) in the diesel and motor oil ranges. Different methods of extraction are used for soil and water samples.
UIS Organic Laboratory can extract and analyze samples in accordance with the National Environmental Management Waste act (Act No 59 of 2008). All organic analysis is done in-house and some of the Inorganic analysis is outsourced. All Organic compounds are analysed in-house while inorganic analyses are outsourced to select partners.
UIS Organic Laboratory has developed a method for the extraction and analysis of phenols in drinking water using Solid Phase Micro-extraction (SPME) and GC/MS. The major advantages of this method include that it only requires a small sample volume (< 10 ml) and no tedious sample preparation is necessary.
